Thesaurus Payroll Manager – System Requirements

This article outlines the minimum and recommended system requirements for installing and running Thesaurus Payroll Manager.
Ensuring your PC meets these requirements will help you avoid performance issues and connectivity problems during payroll processing.

 

Operating System

Thesaurus Payroll Manager is a Windows desktop application.

You will need:

 
  • A supported version of Microsoft Windows, for example:
    • Windows 10 (fully updated)
    • Windows 11
    • Recent Windows Server editions (e.g. Server 2016 or later), where the software is installed for use on a server environment
 

Note: Thesaurus Payroll Manager is not designed to run natively on macOS, Linux, or ChromeOS.
If you use a Mac, you will need a compatible Windows environment (e.g. virtual machine or remote Windows server).

Hardware Requirements

For most users, Thesaurus Payroll Manager will run comfortably on a standard office PC.

 

Minimum hardware guidelines:

  • Processor:
    • A modern Intel or AMD processor capable of running current Windows versions.
  • Memory (RAM):
    • At least 4 GB RAM.
    • If you typically run multiple applications (e.g. email, browser, accounts software) at the same time, 8 GB or more is recommended.
  • Disk Space:

    • Sufficient space for:

      • The application installation (hundreds of MB)
      • Your payroll data files
      • Regular backups
       
    • As a general guideline, we recommend having several GB of free disk space to comfortably store payroll data and backups over time.
 

Tip: If you process payroll for multiple companies or have several years of historical data, ensure that your disk has enough capacity for backup files.
We recommend backing up to an external drive and/or to Thesaurus Connect where possible.

Network and Internet Access

While Thesaurus Payroll Manager is a desktop application, an internet connection is required for many core features, including:

 
  • Revenue integrations
    • Retrieving Revenue Payroll Notifications (RPNs)
    • Submitting Payroll Submission Requests (PSRs)
    • Viewing Revenue records and statements
  • Thesaurus Connect
    • Signing in with your Bright ID
    • Synchronising employer data with Thesaurus Connect
    • Backing up and restoring your data via Connect
    • Employee Self Service features (if enabled)
  • Updates and licensing
    • Downloading software updates and fixes
    • Activating and renewing your licence via Bright ID
 

Note: If your PC has intermittent or restricted internet access, you may experience issues retrieving RPNs or submitting payroll data to Revenue.
Please ensure that your firewall or security software allows Thesaurus Payroll Manager to communicate with Revenue and Thesaurus Connect services.

Other Software and Settings

To make full use of Thesaurus Payroll Manager, you should also have:

  • A PDF viewer (e.g. Adobe Reader or equivalent) for viewing and printing reports and some documentation.
  • Appropriate permissions on your PC to:
    • Install software
    • Save files and backups to your chosen locations
    • Access your ROS digital certificate file if you are retrieving RPNs and submitting PSRs.
 

Digital certificates:
You will need access to your ROS digital certificate (or sub-cert) file for Revenue integrations.

To run Thesaurus Payroll Manager 2026 smoothly, you will need:

 
  • A supported Windows operating system (e.g. Windows 10 or 11)
  • A modern PC with at least 4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended)
  • Sufficient disk space for data and backups
