BOI File Hashes Tab Missing (Digital Signature Tab Appearing)

Overview

If your Thesaurus Payroll file no longer shows a File Hashes tab and instead shows a Digital Signature tab, you may be concerned that you can no longer complete the Bank of Ireland (BOI) Business Online Banking file verification process.

 

This change is usually seen when Thesaurus Payroll has been moved to a new PC or when Windows settings differ from your previous computer. It is not a change to Thesaurus itself, but rather relates to the tools used for Business Online Banking file verification.

 

You can still complete the BOI process. However, you may need to install a hashing tool called HashTab to restore access to the file hash information required by Business On Line Payments Plus.

 

Why Has the File Hashes Tab Disappeared?

On some Windows setups, when you view the properties of a Thesaurus Payroll file used for BOI payments:

  • The File Hashes tab may no longer appear.
  • A Digital Signature tab may be visible instead.
 

This is due to how Windows handles file properties and is typically triggered when:

 
  • Thesaurus Payroll has been installed or moved to a new computer.
  • System or security settings differ from your previous environment.
 

This does not prevent you from completing the BOI Business Online Banking file verification process, but you will need a separate hashing tool to view the file hash values.

 

 

Using HashTab for Business Online Banking File Verification

Bank of Ireland supports a hashing tool called HashTab, provided by a third-party vendor (ImplBits). HashTab integrates into Windows File Explorer and allows you to view hash values (e.g. SHA or MD5) required for File Verification on Business On Line Payments Plus.

 

To resolve the missing File Hashes tab issue, BOI recommends downloading and installing HashTab from:

Note: This is a one-time installation. After HashTab is installed, you should not need to revisit the download page again.

Once installed, you can use HashTab to view the hash values of your Thesaurus Payroll BOI payment files and complete the usual verification steps as outlined in BOI’s own documentation.

 

 

Download & Installation Instructions for HashTab

Follow the steps below on the computer where you run Thesaurus Payroll and create BOI payment files:

 
  1. Go to the HashTab download page:
    https://businessbanking.bankofireland.com/business-online-payments/hashtab/
  2. Click the Download Now button at the top of the page.
  3. When prompted, choose Open (or Save and then open the file) to run the installer.
  4. Double-click the HashTab executable (.exe) file to start the installation.
  5. If Windows prompts you to open the file, click Yes.
  6. If asked “Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?”, click Yes.
  7. The HashTab Setup Wizard will open. Click Next to continue.
  8. Review the License Agreement, then click I Agree to proceed.
  9. In Choose Install Location, select the folder where you want to install HashTab and click Install.
  10. Once the installation is complete and confirmation is displayed, click Finish to close the setup wizard.
 

After installation, HashTab will be available within Windows file properties. You can then follow BOI’s customer support guides and videos for using HashTab to verify your payment files (see the links on the BOI HashTab page).
